The Shred Apart- Aquabound easily converts from a 210cm kayak paddle to a pair of 136cm canoe paddles, making it an ideal option for our larger two person rafts.
The Shred from Aquabound has a light, rigid carbon fiber shaft and rugged, full-size resin/carbon fiber whitewater blades for use in rocky rivers. Weighing 38 ounces as a kayak paddle and 50 ounces for both paddles with the T grips added. The Shred-Apart combines great durability with the response of a carbon-fiber paddle.
The most important Shred-Apart maintenance is to store it disassembled when it is wet. If stored assembled and wet, the nylon ferrules (plugs) can absorb water and expand inside the carbon fiber shaft, resulting in a stuck or “locked” paddle.
Over time you may notice your paddle’s assembly fit getting tighter. This is due the close tolerances necessary to manufacture a really solid paddle, the shaft curing (hence shrinking in internal diameter) and the nylon ferrules slowly absorbing moisture and expanding. Very light sanding of ferrules is all that’s necessary to keep it snug. If it’s tight going on, it’ll be tight coming off.
length/weight:
As a Kayak Paddle: 210 cm (82.5 in)/ 1.08 kg (38 oz)
Each Canoe Paddle: 136 cm (53.5 in)/ .71 kg (25 oz)
